David Whitburn

David Whitburn studied both Law and Science degrees at the University of Auckland from 1996-2000, graduating in 2001. He worked in a variety of roles for Big 4 Chartered Accountancy Practice Deloitte from 1993-2002, starting with basic administration duties and working his way up the chain, setting up companies, doing company minutes, maintaining share registries, company constitutions, doing thousands of GST & income tax returns, and writing tax opinions for some of the largest companies in New Zealand and multi-national conglomerates. In 2001 David was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand by the Chief Justice.  He then worked for a year at Russell McVeagh, before setting up his own practice which focussed on Establishing of Trusts and legal services for residential property owners.

David has become a successful property investor skilled in a number of investment strategies, and not just buy & hold.  He has excelled at buying below value, renovating to add value and constructing to add even more value.  David is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and holds a current legal practising certificate. He serves as a Trustee for a number of his clients Trusts, his Family’s Trusts, is a director of a number of companies, and has become a very popular and skilled presenter on property investment. David started investing in property in 2002, and has over the years has built up a successful property portfolio.  He was elected to the Board of the Auckland Property Investors’ Association (“APIA”) in 2004, and after two years as Secretary from 2005-2007, Vice President from 2007 – June 2010, and he now holds the position of President of APIA: www.apia.org.nz/about-us/board.

David has spoken at a number of seminars and events from 2005 to the present time, ranging from small local meetings, to large conferences, including presenting at the New Zealand Property Investors’ Federation Conference in 2009, and to large audiences in the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Australia as a paid property presenter.  David professionally mentors a number of property investors in group mentoring sessions who have access to him one-on-one basis also to ensure he can provide excellent service.  David’s clients also include a major New Zealand bank and one of New Zealand’s highest net-worth individuals.  He is highly sought after for his opinions and comments on the New Zealand property market, and he has appeared on TV, radio, and major New Zealand and international newspapers.
